Space Marine 2 Reassures Players: No Full Live-Service Transition Planned
2025-03-02 01:42:25Following player concerns regarding the perceived shift towards a live-service model, the publisher of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, Focus Entertainment, has issued a statement clarifying its approach to cosmetic items and community events.
The recent introduction of exclusive cosmetics within community events sparked apprehension among players, who feared a move towards a "fear of missing out" (FOMO) driven system, commonly seen in live-service titles. However, Focus Entertainment has explicitly stated that they "are not looking to transform Space Marine 2 into a full live service game."
The core issue stemmed from the perceived exclusivity of certain cosmetic items available only during limited-time community events. Focus Entertainment acknowledged the community feedback and confirmed that all cosmetics released during these events will eventually become accessible to all players.
Acknowledging player frustrations regarding the current unlock system for event cosmetics, the publisher apologized for the “constraining experience” and pledged to implement a “simplified process” moving forward.
This clarification aims to alleviate player anxieties around potentially missing out on exclusive content, allowing them to enjoy the game's customization options without feeling pressured to grind during specific events.
Space Marine 2 received critical acclaim upon its release, lauded for its intense action and chaotic gameplay. Developer Saber Interactive has maintained consistent post-launch support, delivering new PvP and PvE content, including a recent 6.0 update featuring a new map, enemy type, and Battle Barge expansion.
In addition to addressing the live-service concerns, the community update also provided a brief update on the highly anticipated Horde Mode. Confirmed as a "top priority," the developers teased a significantly different experience from the Horde Mode featured in the original Space Marine, promising exciting surprises for players. Development continues on the upcoming 7.0 update as well.
