Quantic Dream Reassures Fans Amidst NetEase Restructuring, Star Wars Eclipse Development Progressing Smoothly

Quantic Dream, the developer of the highly anticipated Star Wars Eclipse, has provided reassurance to fans amidst reports of studio closures within its parent company, NetEase Games.  The French studio, known for titles like Detroit: Become Human and Fahrenheit, was fully acquired by NetEase in August 2022.

Concerns arose earlier this year regarding the future of Quantic Dream following rumors of NetEase shuttering several overseas subsidiaries.  However, CEO and Head of Publishing Guillaume de Fondaumière recently addressed these concerns in a LinkedIn post.

De Fondaumière expressed his sympathy for those affected by the closures and layoffs at other NetEase studios but confirmed that both Quantic Dream offices, in Paris and Montreal, remain unaffected.  He emphasized that their projects are progressing at "full pace" and that the studio is actively recruiting new talent in both France and Canada.

This positive news comes as a relief to fans eager for updates on Star Wars Eclipse, which was initially announced in December 2021.  The game’s development reportedly experienced a setback with the departure of its lead writer in August 2024.

De Fondaumière's statement also revealed that 2024 was a record year for Quantic Dream in terms of revenue, largely due to a surge in sales of Detroit: Become Human.  The game sold an additional two million copies, bringing its total sales to over 11 million.

While details regarding Star Wars Eclipse remain scarce, the CEO's confirmation that all projects are "progressing as planned" suggests that development is continuing smoothly.  This provides a glimmer of hope for fans anticipating news about the narrative-driven Star Wars title.

The reassurance from Quantic Dream arrives amidst a busy year for the Star Wars franchise, with releases like Ubisoft's Star Wars Outlaws and a new season of Andor on Disney+.
