Wizard101 Unlikely to Appear on Xbox Game Pass Despite Console Release

A Wizard101 developer recently clarified that the game's upcoming console launch doesn't guarantee its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass. This statement addresses recent fan speculation about the MMORPG's potential availability on the subscription service.

Wizard101, a popular online game known for its turn-based combat and deck-building mechanics, has been captivating players for nearly two decades.  Developer KingIsle Entertainment has consistently supported the game with updates, adding new content and improving performance since its PC launch in 2008.  The highly anticipated console release, confirmed for current and previous-gen PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo systems, will also feature crossplay functionality.

Despite the upcoming console release, a KingIsle representative on Discord stated that Wizard101 is 'probably not' coming to Xbox Game Pass.  They explained this decision by referring to the subscription service as a 'double-edged sword.' While acknowledging the increased exposure Game Pass offers, the developer expressed concern about the potential for significant profit loss.

This concern stems from a common perception regarding Xbox Game Pass and its impact on game revenue.  The representative further justified their stance by highlighting the simultaneous launch of a free-to-play version of Wizard101 alongside their own paid membership option.  This free-to-play model makes an Xbox Game Pass release even less necessary, according to the developer.

While the free-to-play model might diminish the need for a Game Pass presence, some popular free-to-play titles like Valorant and Apex Legends thrive on the service. They offer Game Pass subscribers exclusive perks, such as bonus skins and XP boosts. This strategy demonstrates an alternative approach to leveraging the subscription service for free-to-play games.

Although Wizard101's console release date remains unconfirmed, its arrival on Xbox Game Pass seems highly improbable.  However, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can still anticipate other major additions to the service in the future, including titles like Doom: The Dark Ages and FBC: Firebreak.
