Civilization 7's Launch Week Performance Lags Behind Predecessors

Despite launching just a week ago, Sid Meier's Civilization 7 appears to be struggling to match the popularity of its predecessors.

SteamDB data reveals that Civilization 7's peak concurrent player count in its first week reached 84,558. This figure falls behind Civilization 5's 91,363 and Civilization 6's impressive 162,657.  Notably, Civilization 5 achieved its peak player count 11 years ago with a significantly smaller Steam user base.

Comparing current player activity, Civilization 6 maintains a healthy player base with around 30,000 concurrent players and a daily peak of approximately 48,000. Civilization 7, however, currently sits at around 23,000 concurrent players with a daily peak of 46,000. This difference in player engagement is reflected in Steam's trending charts, where Civilization 6 currently outranks its newer counterpart.

Player feedback suggests a mixed reception to the changes introduced in the latest installment, coupled with concerns about the game's overall polish.  The 'Mixed' reviews on Steam, alongside a growing trend of games launching with issues, could contribute to purchase hesitancy among cautious gamers.

Developer Firaxis has already released several updates and has committed to ongoing improvements to address player concerns.

Civilization 7 is priced at $59.99 USD and is available on Steam with support for multiple languages, including Simplified Chinese.
