The recent reveal of Gears of War: E-Day at the Xbox Summer Game Fest Showcase has reignited the franchise and sparked discussions among fans about a potential Halo: The Master Chief Collection-style anthology for the original Gears trilogy.

Adding fuel to the fire, Xbox boss Phil Spencer was observed unlocking achievements in Gears of War 2 and 3 on his public Xbox profile. This led to speculation that he was revisiting the games in preparation for a potential Marcus Fenix Collection, especially with E-Day's rumored 2025 release window.

However, in a conversation with Destin Legarie, Spencer clarified his recent Gears of War activity.  He explained he was simply playing through the trilogy in co-op with a friend who was new to the series. Spencer highlighted the benefits of the Xbox ecosystem, specifically the seamless save system that allowed him to access his Gears of War 3 save from 2011.

While this might disappoint fans hoping for a Marcus Fenix Collection, Spencer's clarification doesn't rule out the possibility of one being in development. With E-Day serving as a prequel and Xbox's increased focus on third-party accessibility, a remastered trilogy could be a strategic move to introduce the franchise to new players, particularly on PlayStation.

A Marcus Fenix Collection could bridge the gap for PlayStation gamers, familiarizing them with the original trilogy's story and gameplay before or after E-Day's release.
