Keen Software House has launched the alpha for Space Engineers 2, unveiling a wealth of new features that promise to redefine the space sandbox experience.  This highly anticipated sequel reimagines the original game with enhanced building mechanics, detailed destruction, and a focus on player creativity.

Available now on Steam Early Access, Space Engineers 2 is projected to remain in development for three years, allowing the community to actively participate in shaping the game's future. Regular content updates are planned throughout this period, introducing new gameplay mechanics and features.

One of the most significant additions is the unified grid system.  This allows players to seamlessly connect all block types (large, medium, and small), including a new 25cm block that opens up a world of possibilities for intricate detailing. The copy-paste building mechanic further streamlines construction, allowing players to replicate any design element quickly and efficiently.

Beyond these core building enhancements, the alpha introduces several quality-of-life improvements.  An 'undo and redo' function offers greater flexibility during the design process, while a detailed destruction mechanic adds a layer of realism.  Players can now shoot and tear down structures, fracturing blocks into pieces with dynamic fire and smoke effects.

Adding to the immersive experience is a paint gun, enabling players to customize the color of every block with precise control over size and quantity. The animated gyroscope block also receives a visual upgrade, featuring intricate details like a bottom grid and a rotating central ball.
