PC Gaming Dominates the Market, Outperforming Consoles in Revenue and Growth

A recent Epyllion report reveals that PC gaming has established a dominant position in the gaming market over the past decade, challenging the traditional perception of console dominance.

The conventional wisdom suggests that the video game market traditionally favored consoles for product launches, with PC versions often trailing behind by several years. Despite this historical trend, PC gaming has made remarkable strides.

According to Epyllion, PC gaming's consumer revenue share has surged by 20% in recent years, while console revenue has stagnated, reflecting divergent interest trends between the two platforms.

Since 2011, global consumer spending on video games has been predominantly driven by mobile platforms, followed by PC, and then consoles.

Data reveals that while both platforms have experienced exponential growth over the years, PC gaming has demonstrated significantly stronger momentum, evidenced by its revenue figures.  Astonishingly, PC game revenue has reached 220% of console revenue over the past decade. This is particularly noteworthy considering the prevailing belief that consoles contribute more significantly to the overall gaming industry.

Epyllion attributes the growth of the PC platform to its "compounding advantages" over consoles and its more interactive gaming environment. These advantages include backward compatibility and greater control over game performance.  Furthermore, sluggish console sales have also contributed to this shift, allowing PC gaming to advance more rapidly in recent years, especially since 2021.

A reader survey conducted by hardware media outlet WCCF indicated that 75% of respondents chose PC as their preferred gaming platform.
