Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's Strong PC Launch: Sales and Player Count Soar
2025-01-27 05:38:33Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has made a significant impact on PC, achieving a peak of over 40,000 concurrent players on Steam. Early sales estimates further indicate a strong start for the highly anticipated RPG.
Originally a PlayStation 5 exclusive released in February 2024, the second installment in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy arrived on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23rd, just ten months later, following an announcement at The Game Awards.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's director has publicly recommended the PC version, generating further excitement among fans.
According to SteamDB, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth reached a peak of 40,564 concurrent players on January 26th. This impressive figure is nearly three times the peak concurrent players of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, which reached 13,803 players shortly after its PC release in December 2021.
The game's commercial success is also evident in its sales performance. As of January 26th, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth ranked among the top-selling games on Steam. Independent estimates from various sources like VG Insights, Gamalytic, and PlayTracker suggest sales between 123,000 and 306,000 copies within the first three days of its PC launch. Averaging these estimates yields approximately 223,700 copies sold.
Compared to the estimated million copies sold of Final Fantasy 7 Remake on Steam since late 2021, Rebirth's initial performance is notable. A 30% pre-order discount, which extends until February 5th, likely contributed to this strong start.
Square Enix has confirmed positive progress on the development of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. While a release date remains unconfirmed, based on the development cycle of previous entries, a 2027 release is plausible. Whether the third installment will also be a timed PlayStation exclusive is yet to be determined, as Square Enix's strategy regarding platform exclusivity has been evolving.
