Sonic the Hedgehog fans should mark May 8 on their calendars, as that’s when Sonic Rumble officially goes live. Developed by Rovio Entertainment (creators of Angry Birds), now under Sega’s ownership, the game will be available on Windows, Android, and iOS. Combining the fast-paced multiplayer chaos of Fall Guys with beloved Sonic characters, Sonic Rumble features toy-like versions of Sonic and friends competing in high-speed challenges and mini-games.

Originally announced in May 2024, Sonic Rumble had a closed beta later that month. Initially slated for a late 2024 or early 2025 release, the game faced a delay, pushing it to Q2 2025. Now, fans finally have a confirmed date to look forward to.

Sega has confirmed five titles in development for the Nintendo Switch 2, including Sonic and Yakuza entries.

Earlier this week, Rovio unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Sonic Rumble, featuring Dr. Eggman manipulating a diorama of Sonic’s world. The trailer showcased obstacles like the Chopper Badnik, alongside fast-paced races and battles, culminating in the official May 8 launch date.

Fan excitement has been high, especially since Rovio confirmed the game won’t include pay-to-win or gacha mechanics. In February, the studio released a content roadmap, detailing new competitive modes and character-specific abilities.

Pre-launch registrations opened in December 2024, with exclusive cosmetics promised for early adopters. Additionally, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is set to release later this year, expanding the franchise’s multiplayer offerings.
