Ubisoft is expanding the reach of its award-winning title, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, by bringing it to the mobile gaming arena. Initially launched on consoles and PC in January 2024, the game garnered critical acclaim, achieving impressive Metacritic scores and earning the Innovation in Accessibility award at the 2024 Game Awards.

This move follows a growing trend of major publishers bringing AAA titles to mobile.  Capcom has led the charge, successfully porting Resident Evil mainstays like RE2, RE4, RE7, and even Village. Ubisoft has also dabbled in this space, bringing Assassin's Creed Mirage to mobile platforms last summer.

The Lost Crown itself has been lauded by many as a top-tier Metroidvania experience, drawing comparisons to genre giants like Hollow Knight and Ori and the Will of the Wisps.  Despite its commercial performance, many fans hope Ubisoft considers a sequel, given the game's high quality.

Now, players can experience the thrill of The Lost Crown on their iOS and Android devices starting April 14th.  A new trailer showcases the mobile port's features, highlighting a focus on enhanced gameplay and customization.

Ubisoft has implemented fully customizable touch controls, even allowing players to adjust the opacity of on-screen icons.  Additional options include automatic wall grabs and an extended dash, further tailoring the experience to individual preferences.

Impressively, the mobile port targets a smooth 60 FPS and also offers full controller support.  Three distinct control configurations cater to different playstyles: the original PC/console experience, a mobile-optimized setup, and a casual mode with assists like auto potions, parries, and attacks. Players can further fine-tune these configurations for maximum comfort and control.

The Lost Crown's visually appealing yet less graphically demanding 2D art style makes it a natural fit for mobile devices.  Its action platforming gameplay also translates well to smaller screens. This successful port raises questions about whether other 2D titles, like the Dead Cells-developed The Rogue Prince of Persia, might follow suit.

While The Lost Crown's mobile release is exciting, the future of the Prince of Persia franchise remains somewhat uncertain.  The Sands of Time remake is undergoing a development reboot, and the Lost Crown team at Ubisoft Montpellier was reportedly disbanded despite the game's critical success.
