The upcoming cooperative tactical RPG, Sunderfolk, has officially announced its release date: April 23, 2025. Developed by Secret Door and published by Dreamhaven, Sunderfolk will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming service.

Mobile gaming has revolutionized the gaming landscape.  The widespread availability of powerful smartphones and tablets has allowed high-quality mobile games to thrive alongside traditional gaming platforms. Games like Genshin Impact demonstrate the growing trend of simultaneous releases across PC, consoles, and mobile devices, offering comparable experiences regardless of platform.  Even industry giants like Xbox and Nvidia are embracing mobile gaming through cloud streaming services like Xbox Game Pass and GeForce Now, while PlayStation promotes remote play from its consoles to various devices.

Sunderfolk distinguishes itself by placing mobile integration at the core of its gameplay experience. The latest trailer reveals the release date and showcases the game's story, mechanics, and mobile interface. Players on all platforms will utilize their smart devices to control their Sunderfolk heroes and activate abilities through a custom-designed app.

This unique approach to controls stems from Secret Door's emphasis on cooperative play.  The developer aimed to create a seamless and accessible co-op experience using the familiarity and ubiquity of mobile devices.

The trailer introduces the storyline of Sunderfolk.  Up to four players can team up to protect the animal village of Ardyn and its ancient Life Tree from an impending threat. Inspired by tabletop games, Sunderfolk utilizes a hex-based grid for movement and turn-based combat. The accompanying app provides players with access to character stats and abilities, presented in a card-like interface reminiscent of tabletop and collectible card games.

Sunderfolk also prioritizes accessibility and ease of sharing.  Inspired by exclusively cooperative games (though solo play is also an option), only the host needs to own a copy of the game.  Other players can simply download the app to join the session.  Online streamers can even invite viewers to participate remotely via the app. This design philosophy makes Sunderfolk a convenient and engaging option for groups seeking a sustained tactical gaming experience.
