Indie Darling Inscryption Sweeps Game Developers Choice Awards
2025-03-22 16:33:11The 2025 Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) recently celebrated the best in game development, with the indie deck-building roguelike, Inscryption, securing the coveted Game of the Year award. The game, which launched to critical acclaim, garnered widespread praise from fellow developers on social media, including congratulations from Swen Vincke, director of another Game of the Year contender, Baldur's Gate 3.
Vincke's enthusiastic tweet read, "Congrats LocalThunk!!! This was my game of the year as well. So happy to see other developers feel the same. Well deserved!!!"
Inscryption's innovative game design clearly resonated deeply within the developer community. While also nominated for Game of the Year at last year's The Game Awards, the top prize ultimately went to Astro's Playroom.
In addition to Game of the Year, Inscryption also swept the 2025 GDCA awards for Best Innovation, Best Debut, and Best Design, cementing its status as a standout title.
Other notable awards included the Pioneer Award presented to Lucas Pope, creator of Papers, Please, and the Lifetime Achievement Award bestowed upon Remedy game director Sam Lake.
