A long-lost Super Nintendo platformer is getting a second chance at life.  Originally released in 2013,  Nightmare Busters is being reimagined as Nightmare Busters Rebirth, a complete remake boasting enhanced visuals, modernized controls, and various quality-of-life upgrades.

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, a console renowned for its iconic platformers like Donkey Kong Country, also hosted a diverse library of titles across genres.  Nightmare Busters, initially planned for a 90s release, finally saw the light of day in 2013.  

Now, with Nightmare Busters Rebirth, this unique title is poised to reach a wider audience. Developer Pix'n Love Games unveiled the project with a trailer showcasing the game's revamped visuals,  fast-paced run-and-gun gameplay reminiscent of titles like Cuphead, and confirmed platforms including PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Steam. The project is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter.

Nightmare Busters Rebirth retains the core gameplay of the original, casting players as leprechauns Flynn and Floyd. The duo hunts nightmarish creatures, employing projectile weapons and nimble platforming skills in their quest for riches.  Two-player co-op is a key feature, allowing friends to join the adventure and experience the fantastical story together.

Launching in 2013, Nightmare Busters earned the distinction of being the final game released for the Super Nintendo, succeeding Frogger's 1998 release and marking a remarkably late entry in the console's lifecycle. This remake offers a unique experience, particularly for fans of classic SNES titles.  Its gameplay evokes elements of classics like Mega Man and Metroid.

Remakes and remasters of classic platformers are increasingly common, with developers regularly revitalizing beloved games for modern hardware. Recent examples include the upcoming remaster of Croc: Legend of the Gobbos. With a plethora of 2D platformers available, fans eagerly await the launch of Nightmare Busters Rebirth in the coming months.
