Forza Horizon 5 on PS5: Platinum Trophy Easier to Achieve, Crossplay Requires Microsoft Account

The acclaimed racing game Forza Horizon 5 is making its way to PlayStation 5, bringing with it a streamlined path to the Platinum Trophy.  Players will only need to unlock 53 trophies from the original base game to achieve the coveted platinum, a significant reduction from the full 165 trophies available across the game and its expansions.  This is welcome news for trophy hunters aiming for a quicker platinum experience.

Originally launched for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2021 to critical acclaim, Forza Horizon 5’s PS5 release on April 29th surprised many.  The Standard Edition will be available for $60, while the Premium Edition, priced at $100, offers four days of early access.

The full trophy list for the PS5 version includes 165 trophies. While all are unlockable,  the remaining 111 trophies, tied to add-ons like the Hot Wheels and Rally Adventure DLCs, are not required for the Platinum Trophy.  TrueTrophies estimates that obtaining the Platinum Trophy will require around 40 hours of gameplay, challenging players to complete tasks such as destroying all 250 Bonus Boards, winning 80 race events, and earning Manufacturer Bonuses for at least 25 cars.

Beyond the trophy news, pre-ordering Forza Horizon 5 on PS5 comes with enticing bonuses. Players will receive #Forzathon Points (in-game currency) and a free 2021 Mercedes-AMG ONE.

Furthermore, PS5 Pro owners will experience enhanced performance. While the base game already features Performance and Quality modes, the PS5 Pro will provide “substantial boosts” to these visual options.

A point of potential contention is the requirement of a Microsoft account to play Forza Horizon 5 on PS5. This mandate is linked to the crossplay functionality promised for the platform, allowing PS5 players to race with those on PC and Xbox.  While this requirement has raised some eyebrows, it underlines Microsoft's commitment to a unified gaming experience.

Despite the Microsoft account requirement, Forza Horizon 5’s reputation as a top-tier racing game suggests a successful PS5 launch.  The game’s vibrant open-world depiction of Mexico, dynamic weather system, and extensive car collection promise an engaging experience for racing fans.
