2025-03-13 01:06:11Paradox Interactive has announced the upcoming release of "Khans of the Steppe," a new DLC for their acclaimed grand strategy game, Crusader Kings 3. Drawing inspiration from the era of Genghis Khan and the Mongol conquests, this expansion promises a wealth of new content for players.
Originally launched for PC in 2020 and later ported to consoles in 2022, Crusader Kings 3 has continued the series' legacy of critical acclaim and commercial success. With an average critic score of 90 on OpenCritic and over 3 million copies sold, the game has solidified its position as a leading grand strategy title. Several expansions have already enriched the game, adding new layers of depth and complexity.
The "Khans of the Steppe" DLC, set to release on April 28, 2025, forms a key part of Crusader Kings 3's Chapter 4. Players will have the opportunity to embody the Great Khan, leading vast, mobile armies on world-conquering campaigns. This expansion introduces nomadic governments as a playable feature, allowing players to experience the unique traditions and culture of the Mongols.
Players can purchase the "Khans of the Steppe" DLC individually for $20 or opt for the complete Chapter 4 package, priced at $44. This package also includes the "Coronations" event pack, introducing a new royal activity, and the "All Under Heaven" expansion. "All Under Heaven" significantly expands the game's map to encompass China, Japan, and Southeast Asia, adding new government types, special events, and more.
Chapter 4 also includes the free 1.15 "Crown" update. This update revamps court positions, enhances AI, improves army automation, and introduces a host of other refinements for all players.
“Khans of the Steppe” follows in the footsteps of previous Crusader Kings 3 expansions, including the Viking-themed “Northern Lords Flavor Pack” (2021), “Royal Court” (2022), “Tours and Tournaments” (2023), and both “Legends of the Dead” and “Roads to Power” (2024).
For players eager to explore new possibilities within Crusader Kings 3, the community has created a variety of total conversion mods. These mods transform the game with settings inspired by popular franchises like Eragon, Game of Thrones, and The Witcher, as well as introducing elements like vampires and a Bronze Age setting.
