The discovery was made by a player known as thedeafmutespeaks, who, after viewing a YouTube video showcasing hidden locations, noticed an unusual whirlpool east of Devil's Grief. Intrigued, they set out to find it in-game, capturing a screenshot as a memento.  To locate the whirlpool, players must venture to Devil's Grief, one of Horizon Zero Dawn's most visually stunning areas.  Instead of scaling the region's towering structures, players need to navigate towards the islands located in the eastern part of Devil's Grief.  By utilizing Photo Mode, increasing the camera height, and facing east, the elusive whirlpool can be spotted.

Unfortunately, reaching the whirlpool remains impossible. The game's mechanics prevent players from swimming towards it, and the surrounding waters are teeming with dangerous creatures like Snapmaws.  Guerrilla Games has never officially addressed the whirlpool's purpose, leaving its meaning open to speculation.  Is it a mere Easter egg, a remnant of scrapped content, or something more? This mystery adds to the game's allure for completionists and those seeking hidden details.
