The First Descendant Shifts Focus to Next-Gen, Ending PS4 and Xbox One Support
2025-03-07 01:01:14Nexon has announced plans to sunset support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of its online multiplayer looter shooter, The First Descendant. Released in July 2024, the game initially catered to both current and previous-generation consoles, in addition to PC. This decision comes after several months of fluctuating fortunes for Nexon, from the game's successful launch to recent workforce adjustments.
Despite these challenges, the development team has consistently delivered post-launch updates. However, they've now decided to prioritize newer platforms to enhance the game's future development.
During a recent livestream detailing the upcoming 'Beyond the Void' update, Nexon revealed its intention to end support for older consoles. A full announcement will follow on March 20th, with support officially ending on June 19th, 2025. Crucially, players on these platforms can transfer their progress to current-gen consoles or PC using the game's cross-save feature.
Producer Beom-Jun Lee acknowledged that this decision, while difficult, might be anticipated by some players. He apologized for any inconvenience and explained that the move is necessary to improve the game's overall quality and enable the team to deliver a more substantial 'mega season update' in the future. This termination is aimed at increasing player satisfaction with upcoming content.
This decision signals Nexon's commitment to maximizing the game's potential on more powerful hardware. By shifting resources away from older consoles, the developers aim to provide a superior experience on current-gen systems and PC, while striving to recapture the initial launch momentum.
