Whispers of a new high-end virtual reality headset from Valve, codenamed Deckard, have been circulating since 2022, following the release of the Valve Index in 2019. Recent leaks suggest that 2025 might be the year Valve finally unveils this ambitious project.

According to prominent Valve insider, Gabe Follower, the Deckard is slated for a late 2025 debut.  Follower emphasizes Valve's commitment to delivering an unparalleled VR experience without compromising on quality, hinting at a premium price point.

A key differentiator from the PC-tethered Valve Index is the Deckard's fully wireless and standalone functionality.  It's rumored to operate on a VR-optimized version of the Steam Deck's SteamOS, offering the intriguing possibility of playing standard Steam Deck games on a virtual big screen within the VR environment.

The projected price for the “full bundle,” which reportedly includes new VR controllers codenamed "Roy" and bundled games or demos, is estimated at a substantial $1,200.  Surprisingly, Gabe Follower suggests that even at this price, Valve might be selling the Deckard at a loss, considering the inflation-adjusted cost of the original Valve Index.

This rumored price point places the Deckard significantly above budget-friendly options like the Meta Quest 3S and the PlayStation VR2.  However, given the speculated high-end features and wireless capabilities, a premium price tag isn't entirely unexpected.
