The 2024 release of action RPG Black Myth: Wukong proved a major gaming success story, breaking sales records in China and internationally.  Months after its August launch, the game's influence continues to ripple through the industry, impacting hardware sales in a significant way.

A recent report by market analyst firm TrendForce examined trends within the monitor industry, particularly the rise of OLED gaming monitors.  Their findings suggest a strong correlation between the release of Black Myth: Wukong and a substantial increase in demand for high-quality gaming monitors in China.

TrendForce's analysis revealed that the demand spurred by Black Myth: Wukong led to significant sales boosts for LCD panel manufacturers. Many Chinese players, eager to experience the game's stunning visuals at peak performance, sought to upgrade their monitors.  China, already a significant market for PC hardware, saw a surge in demand for high-quality displays capable of showcasing the game’s impressive graphics, powered by the latest technology and rendered in a distinctive dark fantasy style.

This resulted in notable sales increases for LCD panel suppliers like BOE, CSOT, and HKC, who reported bumps of 20%, 40%, and 50% respectively in their 2024 sales.  These figures are especially noteworthy given the global market for gaming monitors only grew by 12% in the same period. The disproportionately large contribution from Chinese consumers strongly suggests a direct link between the surge in LCD panel sales and the release of a game that inspired them to upgrade their displays.  In 2024, that game was undeniably Black Myth: Wukong, a title nominated for numerous “Best Visuals” awards.
