The PlayStation Portal has received a significant boost to its game streaming capabilities with the addition of eight new titles to the PS Plus Premium catalog. This is welcome news for users of the handheld device, which initially launched with limitations on game access.

Previously criticized for its inability to natively play games, the PlayStation Portal relies on streaming titles directly from a PlayStation 5 or the cloud.  A recent firmware update enabled cloud streaming functionality, opening up the device to users without a PS5, but requiring a PS Plus Premium subscription.

The newly added games offer a diverse range of experiences, from AAA titles to classic favorites.  Among the highlights are Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Top Spin 2K25, and Mordhau.  Classic titles like Patapon 3 and Dropship: United Peace Force also join the lineup, alongside newer releases such as Tin Hearts, Somerville, and Lost Record: Bloom & Rage Tape 1.

While some of these games, including Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, are accessible on PlayStation 4 and 5 with a PS Plus Extra subscription, cloud streaming on the Portal requires the Premium tier.  This premium tier offers a wider selection of streamable games, continuously expanding with new additions.

Currently, Sony is offering a limited-time discount on PS Plus Premium, providing an incentive for users looking to upgrade and leverage the Portal's cloud streaming capabilities. This offer presents a cost-effective way to experience a growing library of games on the go.

The timing of this new game drop coincides with the recent State of Play event in February 2025, which featured exciting announcements including release dates for Borderlands 4 and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.  The event concluded with the reveal of Saros, a new action game by Housemarque, the developers of Returnal.
