GTA 4 Vice City Next-Gen Mod Defies Take-Two Takedowns
2025-01-28 02:36:51A dedicated team of modders, known as Revolution Team, has released a comprehensive mod for Grand Theft Auto 4, transforming it into a next-gen experience of Vice City. This ambitious project has been released despite facing multiple takedown notices on YouTube from Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar Games' parent company.
The mod, titled GTA: Vice City Next-Gen Edition, has generated significant excitement among fans over the past few weeks. It aims to faithfully recreate the entire Vice City experience within the GTA 4 engine, encompassing missions, cutscenes, and side activities. Footage showcased impressive visuals, suggesting a compelling alternative to the widely criticized Grand Theft Auto: Vice City - The Definitive Edition.
This impressive fan project, however, caught the attention of Take-Two. The company promptly issued takedown notices, resulting in the removal of Revolution Team's YouTube channel and trailers for the mod.
Despite these actions, Revolution Team has forged ahead and released the GTA: Vice City Next-Gen Edition. In a statement, the team expressed their disappointment with the takedown, describing it as a "cruel move." However, they decided to proceed with the release to avoid disruptions. Their primary focus was on delivering the mod as promised.
The team acknowledges the uncertainty surrounding the mod's availability and expects further action from Take-Two. They are, however, prepared for reuploads should the mod be taken down.
Originally, the mod was designed to require the base game of GTA 4 as a show of respect to the publisher. However, this requirement was removed in the final release to ensure broader compatibility and stable performance. While intended to benefit users, this decision may further complicate the situation with Take-Two, known for its history of taking down Grand Theft Auto mods.
With Rockstar Games currently finalizing development on Grand Theft Auto 6, a more official return to Vice City might be on the horizon. The game is tentatively slated for a late 2025 release, though this is subject to change. Following the 2013 release of Grand Theft Auto 5, fans have demonstrated remarkable patience, eagerly anticipating the next installment in the series.
