The developers of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 have confirmed the game's release on PlayStation 5.  This exciting news follows a shift in Square Enix's approach to multiplatform releases, opening the door for the final installment of the acclaimed trilogy to potentially launch on Xbox consoles as well.

The original Final Fantasy 7, a cornerstone of the franchise, debuted on PlayStation in 1997.  Since then, the game has inspired numerous spin-offs, culminating in the announcement of a remake trilogy in 2015.  With Final Fantasy 7 Remake launching in 2020 and Final Fantasy Rebirth in 2024, anticipation builds for the trilogy's conclusion, projected for 2027 or 2028.

In a recent interview, producer Yoshinori Kitase and director Naoki Hamaguchi confirmed the PS5 release, much to the delight of fans who can experience the complete trilogy on a single platform.  Hamaguchi further hinted at Square Enix's intention to release future titles on a “wider range of platforms,” suggesting the Final Fantasy Remake trilogy could eventually land on Xbox Series X/S.

This announcement aligns with recent speculation about the trilogy's availability on other platforms. Rumors have circulated about a potential Switch 2 release, fueling speculation that the entire saga could eventually grace PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PC, and even next-gen consoles like the PS6. While these possibilities remain unconfirmed, the broader platform strategy hinted at by Square Enix adds weight to these rumors.

Hamaguchi previously acknowledged the steady progress of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's development, although a concrete release date remains elusive.  While an official timeframe is yet to be announced, the team confirmed the project is on schedule without major setbacks.
