The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate catalog has just grown richer with two exciting new additions, featuring the day-one release of South of Midnight. Gamers can also look forward to five more titles arriving soon in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate during early April 2025.

South of Midnight is the latest creation from Compulsion Games, the studio behind We Happy Few and Contrast, which became part of Xbox Game Studios in 2018. While the standard edition is priced at $39.99, there's also a premium version available for $49.99, which initially offered a three-day early access period.

South of Midnight officially launched worldwide on April 8, becoming available at 9 AM PDT / 12 PM EDT / 6 PM CET. As a first-party Microsoft title, this stop-motion action-adventure game—steeped in Southern Gothic horror—joins Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on day one. Notably, this marks Compulsion Games’ first release to skip the Xbox One, targeting only Xbox Series X/S and PC. However, last-gen console owners can still experience the game via Xbox Cloud Gaming, a premium feature of XGP Ultimate.

Upcoming Xbox Game Pass Releases

In addition to South of Midnight, Xbox Game Pass also introduced Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls on April 8. Originally launched in March 2014, this expansion for Diablo 3 received widespread acclaim, earning a "Mighty" rating on OpenCritic with an average score of 87 and a 94% recommendation rate. It’s the third Diablo title to join Xbox Game Pass, following Diablo 4 and the original Diablo in 2024 and 2025. Many Activision Blizzard games are still absent from Xbox Game Pass, but Microsoft continues to bridge the gap gradually.

While South of Midnight hasn’t matched Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls’ stellar reviews, it has generated considerable positive attention. Currently holding a "Strong" OpenCritic rating (Top Critic Average: 78, 68% recommendation rate), the game has also earned "Very Positive" feedback from Steam players. Xbox Store ratings remain limited for a definitive assessment.

Looking ahead, Commandos: Origins and Descenders Next arrive on April 9, followed by Blue Prince on April 10. Grand Theft Auto 5 will then be available across all non-Core Xbox Game Pass tiers starting April 15.
