Exquisite Nier: Automata 2B Figure Opens for Pre-orders, But at a Steep Price
2025-03-20 19:18:53The Japanese retailer FuRyu has unveiled a new figure of the beloved Nier: Automata character, 2B, which is currently open for pre-orders. However, prospective buyers should be warned: this collectible comes at a premium price. While 2B has been immortalized in various figures from companies like Play Arts Kai, Good Smile Company, and Bandai S.H. Figuarts, this latest offering boasts a level of detail and craftsmanship that makes its cost a point of contention among fans.
Originally released in 2017 by PlatinumGames and Square Enix, Nier: Automata serves as a sequel to 2010's Nier, a spin-off from the Drakengard series. Known for its complex narrative and multiple endings, Nier: Automata boasts a staggering 26 different conclusions, ranging from humorous to poignant. Five of these endings are considered the main narrative paths, contributing to the intricate tapestry of the Nier universe.
FuRyu's new 2B figure is based on the character's design from the 2023 anime series, Nier: Automata Ver1.1a, directed by Ryōji Masuyama. Complete with flowing robes and signature one-handed sword, the figure captures 2B's elegance and combat prowess. Pre-orders are currently available through the FuRyu Hobby Mall website for Japanese residents, with international fans able to access pre-orders through the Buyee widget or AmiAmi.
While the internet is awash with humorous 2B memes, the price of this figure is no laughing matter. Clocking in at a staggering 198,000 yen (approximately $1,322 USD), the cost is partially explained by its impressive 1/4 scale, standing at approximately 43 cm (16.93 inches) tall. The figure also features traditional Japanese patterns woven into its materials, further contributing to its high price point.
Known formally as YoRHa No.2 Type B, 2B is a YoRHa android created to combat the machine lifeforms that have invaded Earth during the 14th Machine War. Her striking design and compelling story have cemented her status as a video game icon. Her popularity has led to various mods bringing her likeness to other games, and she has also made appearances in titles like Nier Reincarnation and Final Fantasy 14.
Square Enix, the publisher of the Nier series, recently revealed plans for the franchise's 15th anniversary, commencing in April 2025. The celebration will kick off with a special livestream event featuring developer discussions, a mini live performance, and exciting updates. Fans are hopeful that the anniversary celebrations might also include the announcement of a new Nier title, fueled by hints dropped by the series' creators.
