The highly anticipated new damage hero for Overwatch 2, Freja, a Nordic bounty hunter, is set to arrive in Season 16.  Before her official debut, Blizzard is offering players a chance to test her out in a dedicated gameplay trial running from March 21st to 24th.  This 72-hour window will allow the community to experience Freja's unique kit and provide valuable feedback ahead of her launch.

Leading up to the trial weekend, Blizzard has a series of content drops planned. Players can look forward to a lore trailer on March 19th, providing insights into Freja's backstory.  This will be followed by a motion comic on March 20th, similar to those released for other heroes like Hazard, Juno, and Venture. A gameplay trailer will also drop at the start of the trial period, showcasing her abilities in action.

Intriguingly, some players speculate that Freja's design may have originated from a canceled Blizzard project.  This has sparked numerous theories within the community, further fueling anticipation for the new hero.

Those who attended the recent Overwatch 2 Spotlight event have already offered glimpses of Freja's gameplay.  Her primary weapon, the Revdraw Crossbow, fires rapid bolts, with an alternate fire mode launching explosive projectiles.  She possesses high mobility through her Quick Dash and Updraft abilities, enabling quick horizontal and vertical movement, respectively. Her ultimate, Bola Shot, ensnares enemies with an explosive trap, pulling nearby foes towards the detonation.  Freja’s Perks also enhance her hunting prowess, revealing enemies, increasing ultimate charge through her Bounting Hunting passive, and reducing cooldown times.

With Overwatch 2 Season 15 concluding on April 22nd, both Freja and Season 16 are expected to launch approximately a month after the trial period.  Based on player feedback and performance during the trial, Blizzard may implement balance adjustments before her official release.

Looking further ahead, a new support hero, codenamed Aqua, is slated for Season 18, roughly four months later. While details remain scarce, game director Aaron Keller has hinted at Aqua possessing a unique primary fire and intriguing movement abilities. With Freja, Aqua, and a mysterious gladiator hero teased for Season 20, Overwatch 2 players have much to anticipate in the coming months.
