Heroes of the Storm Receives Major Balance Update and Draft Mode Improvements
2025-03-13 07:34:04Heroes of the Storm has just received a significant update, bringing changes to hero talents, draft mode timers, and other balance adjustments and bug fixes. This marks the second major patch for the MOBA in 2025 and is currently live.
While Heroes of the Storm officially entered maintenance mode in July 2022, halting new content development, Blizzard has continued to support the game with regular balance patches. Following a September 2023 update, the game has received several patches every few months, with the previous one landing in late January 2025.
This latest patch introduces substantial changes. Several hero talents have been completely reworked, including Dehaka's Paralyzing Enzymes, where the Gambit functionality has shifted to Feeding Frenzy. Greymane's Wolfheart talent now bolsters armor in Worgen form, while Lucio's Off the Wall and Up to Eleven offer mana refunds and extended Amp It Up duration, respectively.
Draft mode has also received attention, with significantly reduced timers. The first round hero selection time has been cut from 40 seconds to 25, and subsequent picks and bans are down from 24 seconds to 15. These changes aim to expedite the drafting process and get players into matches more quickly.
This update follows a rapid release cadence established in recent months. Unlike previous post-maintenance mode patches which arrived every two to three months, both the January and March 2025 updates were released within a shorter six to seven week timeframe.
With the 10-year anniversary of Heroes of the Storm approaching on June 2nd, players are anticipating potential further updates and perhaps even a special announcement to commemorate the milestone. If the current update frequency continues, fans could see another patch before the anniversary, and potentially another close to the date itself.
The March 12th, 2025 patch notes detail the full extent of the changes, including specific hero adjustments and bug fixes across various game elements.
