Monster Hunter Rise: PC Performance Issues Spark Player Backlash

2025-03-01 23:23:44

The PC release of Monster Hunter Rise has been met with a wave of player complaints regarding performance issues, significantly impacting the experience for many. Capcom has responded with troubleshooting suggestions, but these have been met with mixed reactions, with some players accusing the company of avoiding the core issue of poor optimization.

Launched on February 28th for PC, alongside PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions, Monster Hunter Rise has garnered significantly worse reviews on Steam compared to its console counterparts.  The primary reason cited is widespread performance problems plaguing the PC version.

Capcom acknowledged the performance complaints shortly after release, advising players to update graphics drivers, disable Windows compatibility mode, and adjust graphics settings, among other recommendations. A dedicated support page was also provided with further details.

However, this response has been met with skepticism. Some players believe Capcom is sidestepping the real issue: inadequate PC optimization.  Accusations of the suggested fixes being mere "faux fixes" and the recommended system requirements being "a joke" have surfaced on social media, reflecting a broader sentiment among the player base.

The most vocal critics express frustration that Capcom hasn't indicated any plans for further PC optimization, interpreting the troubleshooting advice as an attempt to avoid acknowledging potential development oversights.  This situation has drawn comparisons to the PC performance issues of Dragon's Dogma 2, which, while eventually improved, were never fully resolved by Capcom.

Despite the performance complaints, Monster Hunter Rise has achieved the largest PC launch in the franchise's history, peaking at over 1.38 million concurrent Steam players on its release day.  However, the influx of negative reviews regarding performance has resulted in a "Mixed" overall rating on Steam.

In addition to driver updates, Capcom recommends ensuring Windows OS and DirectX are up-to-date, whitelisting the game's installation folder in antivirus software, granting administrator privileges to Steam, and verifying game file integrity.
