The Chinese-developed action game, Lost Soul, is finally launching on PS5 and PC on May 30th.  While early glimpses of the game generated excitement, the development journey has been far from smooth, with the team acknowledging early missteps along the way.

In a recent interview, Lost Soul producer Yang Bing revealed the game's humble beginnings as a solo endeavor.  As partners and friends joined, the project evolved into a full-fledged team. However, their initial lack of experience led to numerous development errors and dampened morale.  The turning point came with the support of PlayStation's "China Hero Project," which provided crucial resources and guidance.

With renewed support and focus, the team's skills and experience grew, leading to significant improvements in the development process. Now, with Lost Soul nearing completion, Yang Bing expresses optimism for the team's future projects.

Despite numerous revisions during development, Yang Bing assures that Lost Soul’s core narrative has been strengthened and the combat remains fast-paced and fluid.  Incorporating feedback from their publisher, the team has refined various aspects of the game, including enemy design and AI.

While an engine upgrade was considered, discussions with the publisher and technical team resulted in the decision to stick with the latest version of Unreal Engine 4, rather than transitioning to Unreal Engine 5.

Yang Bing also highlighted the emphasis on story and exploration within Lost Soul.  The game will support PS5 Pro enhancements, allowing players to experience the game with 4K resolution and enhanced frame rates.
