Skull and Bones Celebrates First Anniversary with The Founding Event

After a tumultuous development journey and a mixed reception upon release, Ubisoft's Skull and Bones is celebrating its first anniversary.  Launched in early 2024 after years of anticipation, the pirate-themed action-adventure title is marking the occasion with a special in-game event called The Founding.

Beginning February 18th, players can embark on dedicated contracts offered by Blackwood.  These contracts offer a variety of rewards, including silver, cosmetic items, weapons, the exclusive Illustrious Founding set, and a special anniversary currency: Silver Lions.

Silver Lions, minted specifically for this celebration, can be acquired by exchanging Sovereigns or by completing new event activities. These Lions can then be used to purchase unique rewards from the anniversary event store.  Adding to the festivities, Ubisoft will release the official Year 1 soundtrack on all major streaming platforms on March 6th.

The anniversary event arrives amidst rumors of Year 2 content for Skull and Bones.  This news may come as a surprise to some, given the game's lukewarm reception and player count.  However, continued support would signal Ubisoft's commitment to the title's long-term potential.

Despite the initial criticism surrounding its complexity and content, Ubisoft seems determined to navigate the rough waters.  The introduction of a new PvP mode and a formidable dragon in Season 3, as teased on the game's official Twitter, also suggests ongoing development and investment.

However, the rumored development of an Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake could complicate matters.  Given Skull and Bones' origins as a potential Black Flag expansion, some fans might prefer to wait for a return to the acclaimed Black Flag experience rather than engage with additional Skull and Bones content.

Regardless of future developments, the first-anniversary event offers players a chance to engage with new content and earn exclusive rewards.  For those still sailing the seas in Skull and Bones, The Founding presents an opportunity to celebrate a year of pirate adventures and perhaps glimpse the future of this evolving title.
