GTA 6 Violence: Take-Two CEO Unafraid of Real-World Impact
2025-02-12 08:33:07The debate surrounding violent content in video games has been a long-standing one, with the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) series often at its center. With GTA 6 slated for release this fall, concerns about the game's potential influence on real-world behavior have resurfaced. However, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick remains unconcerned.
In a recent interview with CNBC, Zelnick addressed the question of whether he worries about GTA 6's violence impacting the real world. His response was unequivocal: "I'm not. And I want to be very clear. Entertainment doesn't create behavior, it reflects behavior."
Zelnick elaborated on this point, explaining that entertainment provides an avenue for emotional expression and experience through storytelling. He stated, "The notion that entertainment creates behavior has been disproven." Therefore, he remains unworried about GTA 6 influencing individuals to commit acts of violence in real life.
Drawing parallels with television and film, Zelnick pointed out the existence of "very graphic" violent content in these media, arguing that they don’t lead to harmful actions. Consequently, he dismisses the idea that "graphic video games" would contribute to violent behavior either.
