The Like a Dragon series, formerly known as Yakuza in the West, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a fan-driven merchandise campaign.  Players are invited to vote on which outlandish items they'd most like to see produced, from everyday items like apparel and dishware to more eccentric options.

Since its debut on the PlayStation 2 in 2005, the franchise has grown to encompass nine mainline titles, numerous spin-offs, re-releases, and compilations. Each game delivers a new story, often with a fresh cast of characters, while retaining core elements like the iconic Kamurocho's Millennium Tower and a plethora of engaging minigames.

A dedicated 20th-anniversary website showcases the potential merchandise, ranging from practical to downright bizarre. Fans can choose from items like candles and cosplay gear, or opt for more unusual offerings such as Great Fortune Gold Undies from Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, a karaoke tambourine, prison uniform pajamas, and even a giant pylon, a long-running gag within the series.  Fans are allowed two votes per day until the survey closes on March 21.

The upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, slated for a February 21 release, puts players in the sandals of fan-favorite Goro Majima, reimagined as a pirate lord. This zany adventure promises a return to the series' signature beat 'em up combat and includes popular minigames like Crazy Delivery, Dragon Kart, and Karaoke.

Beyond the anniversary celebrations and the imminent release of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio also teased Project Century, a mysterious title set in 1915 Japan, during The Game Awards 2024. While details remain scarce, studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama has dispelled fan theories connecting the project directly to the Like a Dragon storyline, encouraging patience as more information is revealed.
