Marvel Rivals has backtracked on its initial plan to reset player ranks during its upcoming mid-season update for Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, following significant backlash from the community.

The planned reset, announced on February 10th via Dev Talk 10 on Twitter, would have seen Competitive players drop six ranks, stopping short of a full reset to Bronze. This news sparked widespread discontent among players, who voiced their concerns across social media platforms, arguing the reset was unfair and detrimental to the competitive experience.  Many felt a mid-season reset was unwarranted, especially given the expectation of a full reset between seasons.

Just a day later, on February 11th, Marvel Rivals responded to the outcry with Dev Talk 11, acknowledging the community's feedback and reversing the rank reset decision. The developers reaffirmed their commitment to listening to players and adjusting plans accordingly.  The rest of the mid-season update appears to be proceeding as planned, with a wealth of new content still on the horizon.

The mid-season update, still scheduled for February 21st, marks the halfway point of Season 1.  Competitive players who achieve Gold rank or higher will receive a new Invisible Woman skin, while those reaching Grandmaster and above will earn a unique Crest of Honor. This structure allows for another opportunity to earn a free skin and crest in the latter half of the season. To be eligible for these rewards, players must participate in at least 10 Competitive matches to establish their rank, even if it remains unchanged from before the update.

The update will also introduce the highly anticipated arrival of The Thing and Human Torch, completing The Fantastic Four roster in Marvel Rivals and bringing the total number of playable characters to 39.  While unconfirmed officially, leaks suggest The Thing will be a Vanguard and Human Torch a Duelist.  Fans are eagerly awaiting the debut of these iconic characters in the popular hero shooter.
