Genshin Impact Version 5.5 is just around the corner, and the first phase banners have been officially revealed.  The update will introduce two brand-new characters, Varesa and Iansan, alongside the return of popular five-star Xianyun. The four-star lineup is particularly exciting, featuring Chevreuse and Gaming.

Each banner phase features two five-star characters and three four-stars.  Phase 1 will see the debut of the five-star Varesa and the four-star Iansan.  They'll be joined by rerun characters Xianyun (five-star), Chevreuse, and Gaming (four-star).  Interestingly, both Varesa and Xianyun's kits heavily feature Plunging Attacks, creating potential synergy.

Plunging Attacks, executed by using the attack button mid-air, cause characters to slam into the ground, dealing AoE damage.  This shared mechanic suggests interesting team compositions and playstyles centered around maximizing Plunging Attack damage.

The four-star lineup on this banner is causing a stir within the community.  Many players consider it one of the best four-star lineups in Genshin Impact history.  Even those initially hesitant about Varesa are reconsidering due to the strong supporting cast of Chevreuse and Gaming.

One reason for the enthusiasm is the age of the featured four-stars. With Chevreuse having been released back in January 2024, many players are likely lacking their ideal constellations. This makes pulling for these characters more rewarding, as duplicate pulls will likely result in valuable constellation upgrades.

Varesa is confirmed to be a new five-star DPS character.  While her teacher, Iansan, is a four-star Electro polearm user, expected to fill a powerful support role.  The returning five-star, Xianyun, is an Anemo off-field support.

Both Gaming and Chevreuse are popular four-star choices for their unique abilities. Gaming, an off-field support, also utilizes Plunging Attacks, making him a great partner for Varesa and Xianyun.  Chevreuse excels in Pyro and Electro teams, thanks to her ability to shred Pyro and Electro resistance.
