The iconic 90s platformer, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos, is making a comeback. Developer Argonaut Games has announced an April 2, 2025 release date for the remastered edition of this PS1 classic.

3D platformers experienced a golden age in the early days of 3D gaming, following the massive success of Super Mario 64.  Many consoles had their own mascot-driven platformer, filled with colorful worlds and collectible items.  After a period of relative quiet during the PS3 and PS4 era, the genre has seen a resurgence. Titles like Yooka-Laylee (2015) tapped into nostalgia, while games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (2021) demonstrated the continuing appeal of 3D platforming.  The critical acclaim and awards received by Astro Bot further cemented the genre's renewed relevance.

For those new to 3D platforming, there are plenty of excellent entry points.  The upcoming Croc remaster offers a chance to experience a classic.  After a slight delay,  the remastered Croc: Legend of the Gobbos will launch on April 2, 2025, for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via GOG.com.

The Croc remaster features HD visuals, updated controls, and modern conveniences like trophies and achievements.  The camera system has been refined for smoother gameplay. While retaining its charming low-poly aesthetic and classic design, the remaster aims to provide a more polished experience.

The trailer release sparked positive reactions on social media platforms like Twitter and Bluesky.  Fans expressed excitement about revisiting the game and some called for a potential Croc 2 remaster or even a brand new Croc 3.

While the decision to bypass Steam might disappoint some PC gamers, anticipation remains high for Croc’s return.  In a gaming landscape increasingly receptive to mascot-driven 3D platformers, the revival of Croc could capture both nostalgic fans and a new generation of players.
