Assassin's Creed Shadows: Dual Protagonists, Deep Weapon Customization, and Feudal Japan Setting
2025-03-03 03:22:00Ubisoft has unveiled exciting details about the weapon customization system in Assassin's Creed Shadows, launching on March 20th. This installment marks the series' first foray into feudal Japan, featuring two playable characters with unique combat approaches.
While Assassin's Creed Syndicate introduced dual protagonists in 2015 with Jacob and Evie Frye, Shadows offers a more focused experience. Players can primarily stick with one character, either Yasuke or Naoe, each catering to different playstyles.
Yasuke, a historically inspired samurai, delivers action-oriented gameplay reminiscent of recent titles like Origins and Valhalla. Naoe, a shinobi, embodies the series' stealth roots, offering a more traditional Assassin's Creed experience.
Ubisoft recently showcased the weapon customization in Assassin's Creed Shadows. Players will be able to personalize their arsenal, further distinguishing Yasuke and Naoe's playstyles.
Though the preview focused on katana customization, the implication is that all weapons will offer similar depth. Options for the blade, handle, guard, and saya (scabbard) were shown, each with at least nine variations.
While acquisition methods remain undisclosed, speculation points towards unlocks through gameplay progression or potentially tied to the transmogrification system. Ubisoft has confirmed transmogrification will be available, suggesting players might gain customization options as they discover new weapons.
Beyond weapon customization, Assassin's Creed Shadows will also introduce base-building features, adding another layer of player agency.
The Assassin's Creed franchise remains a cornerstone of Ubisoft's portfolio, and Shadows' reception is highly anticipated. Despite some early leaks, Ubisoft has continued to generate excitement through regular updates and teasers, promising a captivating experience in feudal Japan.
