Civilization 7 Update 1.1.1: Addressing Player Concerns and Enhancing Gameplay

Firaxis Games has responded to player feedback with the release of the Civilization 7 1.1.1 update.  This patch focuses on improving gameplay, addressing UI concerns, and adding new features to enhance the overall experience. This follows the game's initial mixed reception in February 2025, where players criticized aspects of the UI and the absence of some familiar mechanics from previous entries like Civilization 6, which despite its 2016 release date, still maintains a strong player base.

The 1.1.1 update, now available on all platforms except Nintendo Switch, introduces several key improvements.  The Quick Move toggle offers faster unit movement, and players can now rename settlements and commanders.  Restarting a game with the same civilization and leader is now simplified with a dedicated button.  Gameplay improvements include notifications for district attacks and the addition of a Standard start position similar to Civilization 6.  The city and town panel now remains open during purchases, streamlining management. This update also introduces Bulgaria as a playable civilization.  Additionally, players with the Crossroads of the World Collection DLC gain access to Nepal and the new leader Simón Bolívar.  These additions expand the strategic options and offer new ways to experience the game.

Previous updates, like the 1.1.0 patch, also addressed player concerns and added content.  The Bermuda Triangle was introduced as a Natural Wonder for all players, and refinements were made to the Cultural Legacy Path.  The Crossroads of the World DLC also added Great Britain and Carthage as playable civilizations, along with four new Natural Wonders: Machapurchare, Mount Fuji, Vinicunca, and Vihren.

While Firaxis continues to refine and improve Civilization 7, some players remain unconvinced.  Issues like game crashes on PlayStation have led to refunds for some players.  The continued popularity of Civilization 6 demonstrates the high bar set by previous entries in the series.
