The gaming community witnessed a recent clash between two studios following the unfortunate shutdown of the tactical shooter, Spectre Divide.  Mountaintop Studios announced the game's closure in March 2025, citing the first season's underperformance.  This news was met with an unprofessional response from FragPunk's official Twitter account, utilizing a Captain America meme that was quickly perceived as insensitive.

The incident drew considerable criticism, especially considering the challenging landscape of the gaming industry, marked by layoffs and shutdowns.  Warner Bros. Games' cancellation of MultiVersus serves as a stark reminder of these difficulties. Developers and industry professionals typically offer support and condolences during such times, making FragPunk's reaction stand out for its inappropriateness.

Bad Guitar Studio subsequently issued a public apology on Twitter, acknowledging the comment as "insensitive and unprofessional" and reaffirming their respect for industry peers.  They stated that the post did not reflect their studio's values and that measures have been taken to prevent similar occurrences.

The backlash extended beyond the initial comment, with players criticizing FragPunk's existing microtransaction system, which some considered overly aggressive. Several users threatened to uninstall the game in protest, while the now-deleted tweet continued to circulate online. Despite the criticism, some fans accepted the apology, appreciating the studio's admission of wrongdoing.

The incident raises concerns about FragPunk's own future, particularly given its publisher, NetEase.  NetEase's recent layoffs, including staff working on Marvel Rivals, have fueled speculation about the company's strategy.  FragPunk launched successfully on Steam in early March 2025, reaching almost 114,000 concurrent players and ranking sixth on the platform's Top Seller list. However, this incident casts a shadow over the game's continued success.
