1047 Games, the studio behind Splitgate 2, has announced an open beta launch window for May, following a highly successful open alpha test.  The sequel to the popular portal shooter has garnered significant attention and positive feedback during its alpha phase.

Initially, the announcement of Splitgate 2 was met with some apprehension from fans concerned about a potential shift towards a hero shooter format. However, these worries proved largely unfounded, as the alpha demonstrated the game's commitment to its core arena shooter roots while introducing exciting new mechanics like crouch sliding and a faction system.

The recent open alpha proved to be a resounding success for 1047 Games.  The studio reported impressive player retention and overwhelmingly positive feedback. In a recap blog post, 1047 shared compelling statistics from the alpha, highlighting over 500,000 games played, representing a remarkable 200% increase compared to the closed testing conducted last summer.

Players embraced the portal mechanics, spawning a staggering 20 million portals and achieving 59 million kills. The developers even humorously noted the discovery of a rooster within the game, adding a lighthearted touch to their report.

While details regarding the open beta content remain scarce, 1047 Games promised more content than the alpha and has several weeks to unveil further information. Speculation abounds about the return of the massive Glacier map, 20 times larger than any map from the original Splitgate, which allowed alpha testers to fully utilize the new slide mechanic and 8v8v8 game mode.

Developers have also acknowledged player feedback concerning the faction system and are considering adjustments for the beta release.
