RuneScape 3 Roadmap Unveiled: New Content Through 2026 and Beyond

Jagex has offered players a glimpse into the future of RuneScape 3, outlining their plans for the MMO over the next year and beyond in a recently released roadmap.  This roadmap provides details on content arriving through early 2026, with tantalizing hints of what lies even further ahead.

RuneScape, a cornerstone of the MMORPG genre since its 2001 launch, has consistently evolved over the years.  While Jagex has faced its share of challenges and controversial updates, their dedication to delivering fresh content has solidified RuneScape's position as one of the most enduring MMOs.  Interestingly, one of its biggest competitors is Old School RuneScape, a 2013 version of the game that continues to grow in popularity.

In a recent blog post, Jagex detailed the substantial updates coming to RuneScape 3 by early 2026.  Players can anticipate several new quests within the Return to the Desert storyline, along with increases to the maximum skill levels for Runecrafting, Crafting, and Thieving.  A new group combat boss, Amascut, is set to launch later this year.  Autumn will also bring Leagues, a seasonal game mode featuring accelerated XP rates, previously exclusive to Old School RuneScape.

Perhaps the most significant announcement is the arrival of Havenhythe, a brand-new area expansion planned for 2026. This area will be developed and expanded throughout the year, promising an epic, year-long adventure. Jagex has shared captivating concept art for Havenhythe, offering a compelling preview of this intriguing new region.  New lands often bring new quests, and players are hopeful Havenhythe will follow this trend.

Looking beyond 2026, Jagex confirmed early development is underway for the next RuneScape 3 skill.  Following the successful introduction of Necromancy in 2023, which significantly enhanced combat, anticipation is high for this new skill.  However, Jagex cautioned that it is still in the early stages of a lengthy development process. Meanwhile, Old School RuneScape continues its own evolution, with the Alpha for its first-ever new skill, Sailing, on the horizon.
