Pokémon Expands Latin American Spanish Support to Mainline Games and TCG

2025-02-28 01:02:50

The Pokémon Company has announced exciting news for Latin American fans: both the upcoming multiplayer game Pokémon Champions and Pokémon Legends: Z-A will launch with Latin American Spanish language support. This marks a significant milestone, making Pokémon Legends: Z-A the first mainline Pokémon game to offer this localization. Future Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) expansions will also be available in Latin American Spanish.

This announcement, made during the Pokémon Presents 2025 livestream, addresses a long-standing request from the Latin American Pokémon community.  Tomás Cortijo, LATAM regional director for The Pokémon Company International, confirmed that this commitment extends to all future mainline Pokémon products.  This reinforces The Pokémon Company's dedication to engaging with its Latin American fanbase, following recent collaborations such as their partnership with Gamescom LATAM.

The inclusion of Latin American Spanish support is a significant step towards greater inclusivity within the Pokémon community.  The difference in terminology between Spanish and Latin American Spanish can significantly impact the gaming experience. For instance, the Unova region, known as Teselia in Spain, retains its original name in Latin America.  By offering native language support, The Pokémon Company aims to enhance immersion and connection for Latin American players.

This move builds upon previous localization efforts, such as Pokémon GO's introduction of Latin American Spanish support, which was celebrated with a large in-game event.  Providing this option in mainline titles like Pokémon Legends: Z-A, set in the Kalos region, and the upcoming multiplayer Pokémon Champions for Nintendo Switch and mobile, demonstrates a strong commitment to the Latin American market. The expanding availability of Latin American Spanish in the TCG further solidifies this commitment.

2025 promises to be a thrilling year for Pokémon fans.  Along with the highly anticipated Pokémon Legends: Z-A launching in late 2025, mobile players can look forward to a new Pokémon TCG Pocket expansion arriving on February 28th.  Pokémon Champions also awaits, although a release date has yet to be announced.
