According to Unity's recent 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company has significantly downsized its workforce, eliminating over 1700 positions during the last fiscal year.

The filing indicates that as of December 31, 2023, Unity operated 57 offices across 19 countries, employing 6,748 individuals.  However, by December 31, 2024, these figures had decreased to 34 offices in 17 countries with a total headcount of 4,987.

This represents a net reduction of 1,761 employees and the closure of 23 offices over the course of the year.

These cuts align with Unity's previously announced strategy to streamline operations and transition to a "customer-first" business model. The company had initially projected that these restructuring efforts would impact roughly 25% of its workforce, or approximately 1,800 employees.

The employee severance costs associated with these layoffs amounted to approximately $214 million.  Furthermore, Unity incurred an additional $53 million in "non-employee expenses related to the 2024 restructuring," primarily attributed to its research and development division. Recent reports suggest that the company continued to reduce its workforce throughout the fiscal year.

Despite a 25% decline in reported revenue during the fourth quarter, Unity asserted that its Q4 performance "significantly exceeded" expectations.  Annual revenue also experienced a 17% decrease, totaling $1.81 billion. Unity attributes this decline to its broader "portfolio reset" strategy.
