The upcoming sci-fi action RPG, Exodus, helmed by BioWare veteran James Ohlen, is slated for release in 2026. Developed by Archetype Entertainment, a subsidiary of Wizards of the Coast (owned by Hasbro), Exodus will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Archetype Entertainment, founded in 2019, marks its debut with Exodus.  Leading the project is studio head James Ohlen, whose impressive career spans from the classic Baldur's Gate to the more recent Anthem.  The team also boasts other BioWare alumni, including Mass Effect's lead writer, Drew Karpyshyn.  The Game Awards 2023 showcased Exodus' first trailer, revealing the involvement of acclaimed actor Matthew McConaughey.

Hasbro CEO Chris Cocks confirmed the 2026 release window during an earnings call, putting an end to speculation. Cocks expressed enthusiasm for Archetype's inaugural title, highlighting Ohlen's successful track record as a positive indicator for the game's prospects. He further anticipates Exodus to be a key driver of Hasbro's growth in the coming years.

Echoing Ohlen's work on the Mass Effect series, Exodus presents a third-person shooter adventure spanning multiple planets.  Trailers suggest a story-driven experience with branching narratives, incorporating both action-packed combat and stealth sequences. Notably, the game's lore has also been explored in Episode 11 of Prime Video's animated anthology series, Secret Level, released in December 2024.

With the 2026 release window now officially acknowledged by Hasbro, a formal announcement from Archetype Entertainment is expected soon.  Given the approaching timeframe, further glimpses into this spacefaring adventure are anticipated later in 2025.

In other news, Ohlen's former studio, BioWare, has faced challenges. Following the disappointing sales of Dragon Age: The Veilguard in 2024, the EA-owned studio underwent restructuring and job cuts in January 2025. However, BioWare developers have reassured fans that the next Mass Effect installment remains in development.
