Funcom has officially announced the launch date for the highly anticipated survival MMO, Dune: Awakening.  Set to release on May 20th, the game promises a thrilling experience on the treacherous planet of Arrakis.

The release date announcement was accompanied by a captivating new trailer, offering players a glimpse into the vast and dangerous world they will soon inhabit.  The trailer showcases the stunning visuals of Arrakis, highlighting the game's commitment to capturing the essence of Frank Herbert's iconic sci-fi universe.  Along with the release date, Funcom revealed the game's price, set at $49.99.

Previously, Funcom had shared in-depth information about the crucial role of sandworms within the game’s ecosystem.  These colossal creatures will undoubtedly present a significant challenge to players navigating the perilous sands of Arrakis.

The new trailer further emphasizes the imposing presence of sandworms, reminding players of the constant dangers they face.  Survival in this harsh environment will require cunning, strategy, and a deep respect for the power of nature.

Pre-orders for Dune: Awakening are expected to begin soon, offering players the chance to secure the exclusive Terrarium of Muad’Dib. This decorative item allows players to personalize their in-game bases with a charming nod to the series' lore, featuring the adorable desert mouse that inspired Paul Atreides' Fremen name.

Fans eager to delve into the world of Arrakis can already get started with the Dune: Awakening Character Creator and Benchmark Mode, available now on Steam.  Players who download this tool will receive a unique Frameblade knife skin as a bonus upon starting the full game.  This allows players to begin crafting their perfect Arrakis survivor and test their system's performance ahead of launch.  Created characters will be transferable to the final game upon release.

While the PC version launches on May 20th, console players will have to wait a little longer.  Funcom confirmed that the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 versions are still in development and will launch at a later date.  Challenges related to console development, particularly for the Xbox Series S, have contributed to this staggered release strategy.  Funcom has yet to provide a specific release window for the console versions, but promises to keep fans updated as development progresses.
