Whispers within the gaming community suggest that the highly anticipated Gears of War: E-Day may be shifting its release to 2026.  Instead, fans might be treated to a remastered Gears of War collection later this year.

Last June, Xbox showcased a gripping cinematic trailer for Gears of War: E-Day, a prequel centered around Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago during Emergence Day.  While initial speculation pointed to a late 2025 release, new leaks paint a different picture.

Rumors of a Halo: The Master Chief Collection-style anthology for Gears of War have circulated for years.  Fueling these rumors are several intriguing developments.  Composer Steve Jablonsky recently updated YouTube thumbnails for the Gears of War 2 and 3 soundtracks with The Coalition's logo, prompting speculation.  Furthermore, Phil Spencer's recent playthrough of older Gears titles added to the anticipation.

Spanish leaker eXtas1s, known for accurate Forza Horizon 5 leaks, recently claimed that Gears of War: E-Day is now expected in 2026.  He suggests the Gears collection will be unveiled at the June Xbox showcase, launching later in 2025 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and surprisingly, PlayStation 5.  This aligns with recent rumors of Xbox adopting a multiplatform strategy for some of its flagship franchises.

A PlayStation 5 release for the Gears collection would introduce a new audience to the characters and lore before the eventual launch of Gears of War: E-Day, which may also arrive on the platform later.  The collection could potentially include the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition remaster alongside remastered versions of Gears of War 2 and 3.  It remains unclear whether Gears of War: Judgment or the Kait Diaz-centric sequels will be included.

The June Xbox showcase appears to be the likely venue for the collection's official reveal, potentially accompanied by a gameplay trailer and release window for Gears of War: E-Day.
